Ready, set, go!

Having been working away together for awhile, my wife Rachel and I are very proud to announce the launch of a new children’s clothing brand called spiltMILK. The vision is to create clothes for kids that incorporate impeccable style and attention to detail, but that are also designed for everyday use.

We have a blog where we’ll be writing about our experiences.

And again, our kinder kleider website with a simple online ordering function: www.spiltmilk.co.nz.

New garments will be being added to the ‘products page’ daily over the next week or so as part of the debut range named “no use crying”. The range includes boys and girls sweaters, unisex cowkid shirts, tights and merino cardies.

We look forward to seeing kids ’spill the milk’ in the coming months. :-)

Almost the opposite

A while back i wrote a post about how Wellington weather is often a complete opposite to the rest of the country. Watching the news tonight it was all about a country wide storm: Marlborough, Upper Hutt, Horowhenua, Kawa kawa, Auckland, Haumoana, Coromandel etc.

Notice that Wellington today, apart from the rain, was quite calm. The easterly wind (very rare in Wellington) is a wind we get about 6 days per year on average. It’s warmer than an easterly in most other places because the Wairarapa plains warm it up. In summary it’s a mild wind for us. Levin on the other hand does not like an easterly.

If you’re from Welly, enjoy the good bad weather while it lasts.

A big game

Clever cool

This is one of the coolest and also one of the cleverest music videos i’ve ever seen…

Refreshingly simple

Via Nwokedi Idika I came across this startup school 08 talk from David Heinemeier Hansson (Rails/Hacker of the year 2005) on how to make money from your startup.

It’s refreshing and easy to watch!

Too short

Life is too short to:

  • use a pen with bad ink flow
  • iron your underwear
  • worry about what other people think
  • write a business plan over 100 pages long
  • not take a holiday
  • not try for fear of embarrassment
  • analyse every decision
  • wait 4 hours for a flight that’s eventually cancelled
  • say yes to everything
  • say no to everything

The more enjoyable something is, the faster it seems to go. So short is good.

Strengths overdone

I heard this today and liked it…

“A strength overdone can become a weakness” (Author unknown)

So true! Kinda like:

  • analytical skills taken too far can make someone too particular
  • a relaxed demeanor taken too far can result in, um, no results
  • motivation taken too far can make for a wild goose chase
  • a marketing budget taken too far can become an excuse for not focusing on making a great product

etc etc.

Reading Windows

For fear of hypocrisy regarding a previous post on productivity, i’ve caught wind of a funky initiative developed by the New Zealand Book Council to help people read at work, discreetly. ReadatWork.co.nz. A collection of literature is embedded into a windows style interface which looks like work (to your boss).

Take a look at Read at Work.

As I write this i’m torn. Pretending you’re working so you don’t get reprimanded by the boss is not something i support, however I enjoy the cheekiness of the concept.

Notice the cheap shots at MS programs names e.g. Powerpont.
