    Hi Jules,

What’s the point? Great question. You ‘could’ use it simply for an excel type activity. Do you use more than one computer (work, home, laptop) for the same thing?

In our opinion MS excel is way too scientific, way too feature rich and way too noisy for simply creating and managing lists and numbers. We’re purposely trying to under-do our competitors. Not to mention figuretree is web-based which means dual person access (husband and wife can check the weekly budget), multi-location access (from home or work or a friends house) and there’s no fear of data loss on one single PC.

Case example: A surfclub are running a learn to surf day. Every leader has access to the budget for running costs (forecast and actual) which they can update each time any one of them makes a purchase in preparation (boards, pens, paper, refreshments, wetsuit hire). Imagine trying to achieve that using Excel on one computer. The goal posts have shifted.

Our upcoming updates will also entail features that could never be achieved by a simple MS spreadsheet: the generating of templates by our community… e.g. a list on figuretree of what you need to build a steeltube mill, sponsored by ITM. Or a list of what you need to build a skate board ramp on your back lawn, sponsored by Cheapskates. I can’t find that in the excel ehmm….*help* function.

Krusty…. looks good bro, nice little “Web 2.0″ app.. Jules was telling me how you were working on this earlier, and how it was a great idea… Guess he got the point eh.
I finished a website job for a holiday park before Christmas, have been thinking how an online booking system would be handy for them, i think they use a diary still.

    Possy
