I was glad to have a day off yesterday and headed over to the Wairarapa for a surf.
A couple of kilometres before Ngawi, (the infamous fishing village) there’s a couple of good spots. One in particular was pumping yesterday… Dee Dees. I’ll post some photos as soon as i’m able.
For most of the surf I was out on my own and couldn’t help thinking about that shark film ‘open water’ I watched a few weeks back. Aarrrgh!!! It was so annoying having that in the back of my mind. I wish I never watched it. Being 200m offshore in the middle of nowhere with only green ocean and baby seals around was isolating enough. Yeah, I was starting to second guess if that seaweed off yonder was in fact a ….. shark or my mind playing tricks on me. Yes, the mind does play tricks. Ah well, everything changed when a couple of other guys came out. All of a sudden I felt bullet-proof again. As if to think sharks don’t eat when there’s 3 humans to choose from… only one… or maybe there’s security in the fact that the odds are better?
Anyway, the day was a pearler and again reminded me of how much i take the Wairarapa for granted. It’s a gem, and super close.
